For the rest of the Thankful Challenge, I am going to
discuss either artists or movements in art that greatly influenced and made the
subject what it is today (in no particular order).
Ancient and Classical Art include many different
categories – Greek, Roman, Japanese, Pre-Historic, etc. This time period lasted
from about 15,000 BC – 450 AD. We’re
talking cave art, Egyptian tombs, and Greek and Roman architecture to name a
few.
Cave
art is something I find very interesting. I’ve never had the opportunity to
experience it up close and personal, but you can take a virtual tour of the Lascaux cave that is in France (slide down the index bar on the left
and there’s an English version) and see the many different drawings that were
found there in 1940. This cave has been called “The Sistine Chapel of
Prehistory.” Very cool. I bet you will explore there for hours.
Who doesn’t think the Pyramids of Giza are amazing and still wonder how in the world they got there? It was in the 25th century BC that most of the work on these was done. There is still large debate as to exactly how the people made these structures and how many people that entailed.

What about the Parthenon or the Colosseum? The Parthenon in
Greece was built from 447-438 BC and the Colosseum in Rome was built from 70-80
AD. These two structures were built for very different reasons, but look at
them. They’re still standing for the most part after all this time.

Not
only do these things give us insight to how long the world has actually existed
and what the peoples of the times were like, but all of these things are absolutely
amazing, too, because of how old they are and that they’re still around for us
to see and visit. You can actually walk around and stand in the same spots
that these people did when they created these structures and drawings thousands of years ago. That’s the
coolest part of history for me right there, folks.
